Teamwork is built on trust. So we show up to work as ourselves. Everyone has their part to play and we respect that. We communicate honestly and openly, listening as much as we speak. We collaborate with teams from across the business. And we look out for each other. Our strength comes from the way our skills, experience and knowledge combine.

Here’s what our employees say about working with us.

Sulekha Varma – Regional Head of Racing

I feel very lucky to have the role that I do, and it’s something I could only have dreamed of when I started as a Trainee Clerk 13 years ago. The group of Clerks within The Jockey Club are great at supporting each other through good and bad times, advising and helping each other along the way. I believe that we have the best racecourses in the country and that is because we have a talented group of Clerks and Groundstaff managing our turf.

Becoming Clerk of the Course at Aintree was a huge moment for me, but getting my first Grand National meeting (sadly behind-closed-doors!) under my belt was a satisfying moment. Even better that it was the first win in the big race for a female jockey!

Rob Achner – Head of Operations – Jockey Club Estates

My day to day duties include speaking to the Trainers, checking the ground conditions, organising projects. I manage a team of 22. Also I am the Lead Heath Medic with a team of 3 that I manage. We provide a first response emergency care to injured riders on our Training Grounds Within my day responsibilities are making sure that I am available on call for any incidents within the Training Grounds and making sure that the day to day operations run smoothly.

What I love most about my job is being able to go out early in the mornings to see the horses in training and having the time to be able to engage with the Trainers and Staff. Jockey Club Estates is great place to work because we are a close team and work well together sharing ideas and success while constantly looking at different ways to work.

Brian Watson – Regional Welfare Manager – Racing Welfare

I started at Racing Welfare in 2016 and am based in the Lambourn office. My role takes me all over the South of the country. I enjoy the time I spend with retired racing staff, hearing all the stories of back in the day plus they always make a good brew. My role is very varied and no two days are the same. I can go from helping someone claim benefits one day to measuring for a new carpet the next

It’s great to see many of the kids I taught now riding successfully under rules and holding down fantastic jobs with recognised trainers
